Connecting a new PC to my network
I've just built my first PC and everything is working fine with MS XP Pro loaded. Yippee!
I've used an Asus A8N-SLI Premium mobo which has 2 network type sockets. I've been through the setup process but rather than showing a Local Area Connection in the Network Connections section in control panel it shows 1394 connection. Is 1394 the same as an ethernet card type connection. I'm a bit confused as the mobo manual describes the 2 sockets as Lan1 and Lan2. I connect to the internet using a Netgear external dsl modem/hub and even though the connection light is flashing, and the ones at the back of the pc are as well, I can't get the network to recognise the new pc or connect it to the internet. I hope that is clear. Do I need to get an ethernet card? |

No, you need to install the network adapter drivers from the motherboard CD. 1394 is Firewire and you won't be using that.

your board has 2 ethernet ports and 1 firewire port.
1394 is the firewire connector. have you run the handy dandy network wizard yet? also make sure that the drivers are loaded for the board. |

Thanks guys. What a fool, I didn't load the mobo drivers - must be tired and over excited.
