Prolems with D-Link Airplus DWL-120+ USB Wireless Adapter

I am currently having a few problems with my wireless adapter

Adapter: D-Link Airplus DWL-120+ USB Wireless Adapter

Router: Netgear D834G

PC specs:
AMD Athlon X2 64 Dual Core 4400+
2Gb RAM (2x1024 Kingston RAM)
2x 300Gb SATA HDD formatted in RAID
2x GeForce 7900GT 256Mb in SLI
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard - Athlon 64 X2 Socket 939 nForce 4 SLI ATX Dual Gigabit LAN
Creative SounBlaster X-Fi

I was using a D-Link PCI card with my previous computer and had no problems with the connection. I have since bought a new PC (specs above) and had to get a USB wireless adapter.

My problem is that after about 10 minutes of being connected to the network, with low to medium transfer rate (up to 100kbps) the connectivity stops and the PC will not send or receive any information fromthe router.

It appears as though the amount downloaded is not a contributing factor. Sometime it'll be 50Mb, sometime 20Mb, sometimes 10Mb or less.

The other PC on the network has a wired connection and that still works perfectly well.

At this point in time I'm assuming that it's possibly a driver problem, but I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers and this has made no difference.

At times, if the transfer rate is 100Kbps or more then after a few minutes I get a blue screen saying that tciaxusb.sys has caused a fatal error. I'm not sure of the exact message as the blue screen does not stay there long enough to read it all.

Any ideas of what might be causing this and how I could prevent this from happening?

1) USB betwork controllers are a PITA. They never seem to work as well or be as stable as PCI cards.

2) As you have addressed the client side, now it is time to check the host side. Make sure that the router is current and up to date on its flash and bios.

I had the same problem with a D-Link DI-524 and a DWL-G122 usb nic. Had a shakey connection for about 10 minutes, then blah. Thought the same thing about the drivers, but to no avail.

The advice I recieved from the friendly people here on the tech forums was to scrap the usb nic. They were right. Most people who replied said the usb nics were hard to deal with, and didnt offer the stability of a pci card.

I see your problem though - no room for a PCI card when you are running SLI with 2 big cards. There aren't any PCI-Ex1 wireless nics yet that I can find. However, Netgear has a wireless bridge - it's a G-adapter to Ethernet - I bet it would work a LOT better.
