How to manage AVG

This is the 1st time I am using AVG anti-virus software but I donot understand how to manage it, my AVG automatically downloads and installs the updates necessary to run the service but when I boot my computer up, I get the messege that my AVG is out of date?

I donot understand that how can it be out of date if AVG automatically installs the update .

Can you please let me know how to deal with infected files that are detected by this anti-virus.

Just right now as I am scanning my Computer with AVG, it detected a virus "Win/32 Parite".

Is it a virus or the infected file, some times I am confused with these 2 things because virus is a virus and infected file is a one that is infected by virus right? so we can directly delete the virus but not the infected file which can be useful for the system.

Can anyone help me out.

My other question is that can we run any anti-virus when we are browsing websites and doing any kind of work on Computer like chatting, printing and listening to music?

Are you sure that AVG is actually downloading and installing the updates? Try manually updating AVG and see if that satisfies Windows. AVG usually tries to deal with infections a couple of different ways:
1.) It will attempt to "clean" the file.
2.) It will attempt to place the file in the "virus vault".
It may even attempt to delete the file. It usually prompts you for which action you want it to take (you never want to delete a file unless you know what it's function may be). And, if you keep AVG running in the background, it protects your computer in real time.

Thanks for your help, I have successfully deleted the viruses by AVG but I wanted to ask you something that before I tried to delete the file, it said that I should take the backup of the infected files after deleting the viruses. What I did was that I simply reinstalled windows by puting winxp cd in the Computer and I am pretty sure it must have over written the infected files of the Computer. Have I done the right thing? Is this how you take the backup of the infected files or their is another way to do it?

I'm not sure what you mean by "take the back up".
Here is a link on AVG's forum that contains a pretty thorough rundown of cleaning up an infected machine. http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/re...7725,backpage=

Check to make sure your date stamp on your computer is set correctly. If AVG was installed when the date was set incorrectly, it will alert you that it's virus database is "out of date".

Sometimes a re-installation of AVG will solve this, but make sure your date is set correctly before doing so.

I experienced the same problem periodically. What AVG is not doing is updating because while it has the virus definition files it doesnt have the correct "updater" file. Just download the newest version (if you dont have it already) and reinstall.
