windows deffender

hello..i was updating microsoft anty spyware beta when it promoted me to install a newer version.. then it started installing somthing eals than microsoft anty spyware beta which is
windows deffender... i removed both programs and installed microsoft anty spyware beta
again and this time it updated without promoting windows deffender.. and i am confused..
please advise me on what best to do.... thank you

Windows Defender is intended to replace MS AntiSpyware that will expire soon. It may continue to work on your pc but MS will no longer update the definitions.

true..my licence expiers this mounth..so you are saying i need to get the new ms anti spyware
and in this case they wont ask me to replace it with the deffender..
in another word ms anti spyware > win deffender , right?

Nope, I'm saying Windows Defender is your best choice. WD replaces MS AS.

but win deffender dosnt show an icon on my notification bar is that ok? i mean would the real
time protection still be on? thank you

WD runs as a Service so you won't see a tray icon like with MS AS. Here's a guide to WD. They also have a FAQ page.

You can enable the system tray icon for Windows Defender if you want to. It's in Options.
