connect two ethernet cables
I have a 50 ft. Cat 6 ethernet cable, but it is about 10 feet too short. I also have another cat 5 cable about 25 feet long. I am trying to find an adapter to connect these two cables together. Have been looking on Newegg for a while, but just can't seem to find anything. Can anyone provide me a link, if such a thing exists. Or would I be better off (transmission wise) if I just got a 75 ft. cable ? Thanks in advance, Mike

You can buy a couple of female wall adapters from Home Depot and make an adapter but it's gonna look tacky. If you think you'll need more cables in the future, you could buy the raw cable, crimping tool and ends at HD and make your own.

If you are joining two machines together, lan card to lan card then you will need a crossover cable and this adapter might be what you are looking for. http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/s...productID=4524
I couldn't see one that made a straight connection only crossover.

Thanks for the replies, Panama and rjfvillarosa. I am running a ethernet cable from the Linksys router to another computer in another part of the house. I have a 50ft. cable but it is about 10 feet too short. I also have another 25 ft. cable. I was looking for a coupler to join these two cables, or maybe a 10 ft. cable with a female connection on one end, and a male at the other.

radioshack has ethernet couplers to couple the two ethernet cords together. I think they run 3-5 dollars. My roomate used one, no problem with it.

I'd buy a longer cable. They are cheap enough. 100 foot cables are $7.59 plus $4.99 shipping from Newegg. Couplers don't always work well.
