VPN question
I have a new dlink VPN router and i will be getting a static ip address so I can use the laptop to VPN into the office pc.
What do i do with this static IP address that I intend to get off my isp? Do I put it in the router? If so, where? Or does the router stay at defaults and it just knows my static ip? I also assume i put in the VPN server address in the xpp machine at work. Is this correct? |

If the new router and static IP are for your house and you'll be connecting via vpn to the office you don't need either...They would allow you to VPN in from the Office to the House...

the new router is for the office pc. The static ip is for the office pc.
So with that now clear and settled where do i put the static ip address? Is it in the router somewhere? Do i continue to use dhcp on the internal lan? Do I change dns record anywhere? Nowhere in the MS KB can I see this info explained. |

You configure your router for static IP - you enter the IP, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS into the router setup as directed by the ISP. You can continue to use DHCP on your internal LAN, let the router provide those services - if you are presently using a server to provide it, turn off those services. I would recommend you assign the machine you want to VPN into a static local IP instead of using DHCP.
