HELP-Torrents craawwll on speedtouch 585 1000Mbps connection

hi all,,

just recently updated my connection from a poor 64Kb/s to a nice broadband 1000Mb/s.

Then i happily selected a list of torrents i could finally get down to downloading and got on with it....guess what? instaed of downloading at 7k/s i got speeds of 14-20K/s......isnt that a bugger? with this rate things will take months to download....

direct downloading works sweet...its super fast....but torrents? just not happening.

I did my research and found that nearly all torrent clients require you to open specific ports in the router hardware in order to get descent speeds. But alas the instructions i can find through the manual and google are scarce if any. The router is configured by a webinterface and i managed to get as close as the "Assign a game or application to a local network device" step.

In this step i have to declare the following values for any new program entry...plz help me fill in the gaps

Protocol - TCP
Port Range - 6881-6999 ???
Translate to - ...????
Trigger Protocol - ....???
Trigger Prot - ...???

thnks

this is how torrents work.To describe the process of distributing and getting files in a nutshell, a "torrent" file is created to describe the data to be distributed. Someone then makes the torrent file available to others and begins sending out (or seeding) the file they want to share. Others find the torrent and begin downloading the file. As they do so, they share the file parts they get with others (peers) who are also trying to download the same file. This sharing makes the file easier to download as more parts become available from multiple sources. Since the file is broken up into small pieces, little bandwidth is used to do the overall transfer. Once the file is finished downloading, the client software continues to share the completed file (becoming a new seed) with others looking for it. This also means the file can still be downloaded long after the original poster has stopped seeding the file

yeah...i know how it works....what are you saying?

that downloading at 5-10k and uploading at 10-30k with a 100k connection is normal for torrents?

yeah if not many people have dowloaded what you are downloading because it is a P2P downloading network. The more people that have downloaded it, the more bandwidth you get. Have you ever used Kazaa, Napster, or Limewire in the past? It works like that.

i m using TorrentStorm and what makes me think its the closed ports that are causing the low tranfers is that:

1. i get a Yellow LED on the state of the file
2. i m downloading southpark which is one of the most shared torrents out there.

Hello, I consider myself pretty good with the Torrent stuff I configured my computers and my friends computers for port forwarding..

you can try www.portforward.com as they are the best.
but anyways.. here is what u can do.
start --> run --> type cmd
then a black box wil come up. type ipconfig /all
a list should come up ...
Write down ur IP Address and ur Default Gateway.
then open internet explorer or whatever and type in http://192.168.x.x and it SHOULD ask u for a username and password.

This is hwere portforward.com comes in, OR your user manual. Check out what ur password or username is. sometimes, on my Linksys, the password is admin and the username is empty.

Then from there, u go to advanced settings or firewall settings and make an Application thing to forward ports TCP AND UDP 6112 to 6112 or whatever port(s) ur using.

Good luck!

t7riggah......you just explained how to get to the webinterface that i described in the first post.

read the post!

its not the interfacing i m lacking...its the values of the ports.

portforward doesnt explain the method for touchspeed585 but for older models that have a different interface with different terminology.....e.g. the NAT section doesnt exist in the 585 settiings interface.

but anyways....i downloaded Azureus and it apparently uses a non blocked port cause the rate of transfer shot up to the max 100k (even 105).

i still would like to know how to configure ports on the 585 though.

You will have to find a manual for that router.

mate....manuals just give you short description of things:

e.g. TRIGGER PORT = this is where you type the Trigger port for the program you want to use.

bloody useless!!!

i guess you could call it that....

dont get me wrong. I'd buy the whole series on DVD if it was available. I love the show and i dont beleive in piracy as such. If i have an option to avoid :

1. Breaking the law
2. Watch my favourite show in crappy TV rips (bad image and sound)
3. Support artists who do a good job

I would take it in an instance.

But....SP is not sold in my country and i dont have a credit card to order it from the net!
so go ahead and call me a pirate cause i guess i am.
I would like to change that if i could.

That was not a personal attack on you, but it opens up the argument that if someone can get help here with a problem that could help them with an illegal act then why can't someone else get help.
Next time just leave out the name of what you are downloading, what you do on your pc is your business and nobody elses.
