Problem Connecting to Workgroup
I have a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop that used to work on our network wirelessly. But all of a sudden, I turned the computer on one morning and tried connecting to another computer, but it came up with the error "Error connecting to workgroup. May not have permission..." It has permission because it was connecting before. The laptop can connect to the laptop and other devices on the nework such as network hard drives and print servers, the only problem is accessing other computers. I am pretty sure the problem is this computer because the other PCs can access all the systems on the network.
As far as trouble shooting, I have tried asigning a static IP, but that has not helped. It is running Win XP Home. I have connected it to different APs, but to no avail. Also tried running the network setup wizard. Nothing is working to get it to connect to other PCs. What would you reccommend I do? |

Are you running XP om all of these?
I had Dynamic Host problems back in the days when I mixed programs on a network - especially if W98 and/ or Me was involved. Check all of your file sharing parameters (again) as well. |

XP on 3 desktops and the Compaq (in question), 2000 on 2 desktops, 98se on 1 desktop and 1 laptop, and 95 on 1 laptop. All the other computers can access each other without a problem.
Checked the file share params again. No go. |
