A Network Monitor Thingy?
I have a few computers that will run on the network to run a few programs constantly. There won't be a monitor or anything plugged into it, as no one will be paying attention to what this does. If it does what it's supposed to, it should be writing a file with items processed that passed every test. I tired running it on another computer, which was a junk computer I had laying around, and I soon found that the computer would lock up sometime after starting but before I went to get the file. Now I have a couple other computers to do the job, but is there something that monitors the network that would alert me if one computer locks up and goes down? That way I would know when I need to restart them without wasting time.

You could Remote Desktop or VNC over to them and see what they're doing.

I do use VNC, but I want something that would notify me even when ones goes down. I found Look@Lan, http://www.lookatlan.com/. It has a notifier thing and seems to be what I was looking for.

I've seen this in use and it's pretty good. It has the capability to contact you if a machine goes down as well. HTH |
