Slow Internet on Host Computer
Hey all.
I have 2 computers in a workgroup/lan. Computer 1 has a wireless internet connection to my DSL router and Computer 2 is ICSharing with Computer 1. The problem is, downloads are incredibly fast on the second computer, but way slow on Computer 1! We share files fine, like any other LAN, but his computer downloads things faster. Any suggestions? Specs: Comp1 - Windows XP home, Netgear Wi Card, Connects directly to DSL Router Comp2 - Windows Xp Pro, Cat5 cabled to Comp1 Lemme know if you need further details, and thanx! |

So you have a Wifi connecting to a router? And then the both computers connect to each other via ethernet? Could you not just get a wifi card for the second computer (the one running XP Pro) and have them BOTH hooked up to the router?

Sounds like you don't even need wireless - just connect both computers to the router with CAT5.

Can't cat5 to the other router (long story short) it's too far away.
Don't have room/$ to put another wireless card in the second computer. Do you think maybe I've got a network setting on computer one that's causing a slow down? |

Computer 2 -----> Computer 1 =====> DSL Router
---- is cat 5 to ethernet card ==== is wireless netgear card to router I do notice than when I shut off computer 2, 'network cable is unplugged' shows up on computer 1 |

run a cat-5 cable from the router to a switch by computer #1 then connect both computers to the switch, it will work much better that way than the way your doing it now.
