Sharing a wireless connection... help!
I have a linksys wireless card in this computer(winxp) and i want to use that connection on my linux box(ubuntu). So both can be connected to the internet with one card. I understand if no one knows how to do the linux end but can someone help me with the windows host part? I just went to network connections and created a new connection that allowed incoming connections. Is this what I want? Do I have to bridge my wireless with my 1394 connection? Do I need network cards with ethernet or can i use the ethernet on the motherboards?

I'm not entirely clear what you're trying to do here. Are you trying to share a wireless connection? Wired? Who is providing the connection?

Ok I have this windows computer with a wireless internet connection. I want to connect it to a linux computer with an ethernet cable so the linux computer can also be on the internet.

Just select the wireless and wired connections in the Network Connections folder, right-click and choose Bridge Connections. You will need a crossover cable if you are using wired ethernet, but you can use the standard network cards.

No, that's your FireWire port. It's theoretically possible to network with FireWire, but I've never gotten it to work on XP.

then i dont have an ethernet port in my network connections, how do i get it to appear?
i have ethernet on my motherboard will that work? or do i need a dedicated ethernet network card? |

Did you install any drivers whatsoever when you installed Windows? I t looks like you're missing chipset, audo and network at the very least.

No only my video card and network card drivers. I think i installed the disk that came with my mobo, shouldnt it have been on that?

Define "installed the disk." There are multiple drivers on that CD and it sounds like you didn't install any of them.

I didnt install the video ones because i bought an ati video card and used that, but the other ones i did. i just put it in again and dont see anything about ethernet

Ok no more missing drivers and ethernet is showing up. I bridged ethernet and wireless..... anything else?
