T1?T2?T3? fiber optics?
I kind of new to networking and stuff but ive heard from some of my freinds that they get like T1 or T2 or T3 internet from their work. I know this is the fastest out there but is it possible to get this type of internet without working at a place that will give you it? And ive heard verizon is using fiber optics in some of their new lines and that this makes amazing internet speeds possible, is this true?

If you don't mind, how much does that cost?
A T1 line would cost you a bucketload. Keep in mind it's good for supporting a lot of users on a large network without slowing to a crawl like a home connection might.

AT&T is suppoused to come and lay fiber all around my area, i can't wait. Right now time warner cable has a monoply in my area and is rediculous. I'm hoping AT&T will provide lots of services over their new fiber network and drive prices way down. I'm excited.

Man that would be nice. I think I could find a use for it somehow...Seriously though, that isn't practical for most of us. 8 mb down is the best most of us are going to do.

it's technical name is "metro ethernet". it is not the same technology as DSL or T lines.
I am sure wiki has tons of info on it if you are interested. |
