Wireless PCI Adapter Freezes Desktop at Startup

I just purchased an Airnet 802.11g 54Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter this afternoon after I snapped the antenna off my other PCI Adapter during a move. I installed the software that came on the accompanying CD and then installed the adapter, simple as that.

When I boot up the computer it freezes at a start up screen that originally takes two seconds. This start up screen checks my computer hardware (processor, memory, drives, and a quick virus scan). I can also enter for BIOS information at this screen. Anyway, the computer "freezes" when it scans the memory, it just sits there saying "checking...". When I physically uninstall the adapter, it doesn't freeze on this screen.

I'm at a loss as to what I should do at this moment. Any suggestions?

Did you uninstall the old drivers?
If not that might be the problem.

Jay, I think it's freezing on the POST screen, not Windows. Drivers won't cause this, it's a hardware issue.

An 800 MHz Duron tells me that you have an older motherboard - that card may not be getting along with the old BIOS. Try moving it to a different PCI slot - and *definitely* do not put it in the top slot next to the video card. Go into the bios setup and look for something like "reset configuration data" and enable that.
