networking grief!!!!

OK, so the short story is that my HD failed and I ended up buying a new PC plus a used 10G HD for my old PC.

Both PC's have XP, (Media for the new and Pro for the old(Clean Install)). The old PC has a wireless connection to the Internet which I share Broadband with my neighbor via an internal PCI wireless card, this connection is functioning perfectly and utilizes a fixed IP & DNS address. Then both PC are wired network, which is where my breakdown is occuring...

Yes, both PC's have the same workgroup name, (we will call it "LTD" for now) and the old PC is named "Micron" and the new is "Dell". The intention is that 'MICRON' will now become my Firewall/Email Server and that 'DELL' is now for personal use, as well as access the Internet via the Wireless Connection on 'MICRON'.

At the moment both PC's wired LAN Connections are set to "Obtain IP Address" and "Obtain DNS Address" In this setup both PC's indicate a Wired LAN Connection, Speed: 100Mps and Status: Limited or no connectivity. I am sharing 2 Folders on the 'DELL': "Downloads and Business" and on the 'MICRON' only one folder is shared "Downloads".Now in viewing the network connections on "MICRON" I can see both the "Downloads on the DELL" and "Business on the DELL" but cannot gain access to them, I get an "You do not have privalages to access this folder" and in 'MICRON' I am unable to see the 'MICRON' or the "Downloads on MICRON" folder.

Now when I enter a fixed IP & DNS Address on the Wired LAN connections, get a full LAN connection, but my Internet fails and I still cannot gain access to the other PC's shared folders.

and finally I cant access the Internet with the 'DELL', but I have not established a complete LAN connection yet either.

Ideas..

Thanks
BV

OK UPDATE....

I have the wired LAN connection working between the 2 PC's and the Internet on the 'MICRON' using the wireless connection operational. But the Internet on the 'DELL' via the wired LAN connection through the 'MICRON' is still not functioning.

When I goto the wired LAN properties and select "Allow other computers to connect to the Internet through this computer" checkbox, my Wired LAN connection and the Wireless Internet connection goes down.

Any ideas?

THanks
BV

You are sharing the wrong adapter. You enable that checkbox in the WIRELESS connection properties.

OK.. You right, I misspoke, it was the Wireless Connection not the LAN Connection for sharing, sorry, however, I attempted again to share the Wireless Connection to verify and I get this error message...

"An error occured while Internet Connection Sharing was enabled"

"Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled"
"A LAN Connection is already configured with the IP Address that is required for automatic IP Addressing"

So on my Wireless Network Connection I have the following IP Address'
IP Address: 192.168.0.20
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Prefered DNS: 192.168.0.1

and on the LAN Connection on both PC's are set for "Obtain IP Address Automatically...

Again, your Help is appreciated...

thank

The problem is you cannot share out an IP that is in the 192.168.0.x subnet. Too bad your neighbor's router is in that subnet. If you can talk him into changing the router's IP to 192.168.1.1, it will work.

XP's ICS hardcodes the sharing NIC to 192.168.0.1 and that cannot be changed. That's conflicting with the gateway.
