MAC Address Question
Hi all,
On a wireless router (e.g. Linksys WRT54G/GL) do the LAN/Wireless MAC Address have to match? I know the WAN address can be cloned to the same MAC that is associated with the computer the cable modem was registered with. Or should all three MAC addresses (WAN/Wireless/LAN) be unique? I have the option to clone the WAN MAC and also the Wireless MAC, that is why I'm wondering. TIA. |

on the LAN side of the network, it is vital that each device have their own MAC address, no sharing allowed here.
you can clone a PC's MAC address on the WAN port of a router as the WAN port is, technically, on a seperate network and the router only deals with IP addresses, it cares little about MAC addresses (the layer 3 and layer 2 of the OSI model respectively). |
