Killer NIC any good?
anyone tried this network interface card? it claims that it reduces lag by more than half and increases fps from 6% to 8%.

at quick glance, this card looks like more of a commercial grade card as it has a networking processor on board the card rather than utilizing the main system processor (like many consumer cards).
In addition, the card appears to have some QoS (quality of service) features that allows the user to prioritize traffic using 802.1q specs. the processor is a good thing. The QoS part is, in my opinion, more problematic. for QoS to be truly effective, not only must the NIC card support tagging, so must the switches, the rotuer and the software. QoS is not a point solution but an entire system solution. having said that, will the card make a difference? as with a shift from a winmodem to a hard modem, you may see an immediate improvement over a traditional consumer level NIC but less (if any) if you use a more up market card (like a commerical grade 3com or intel cards as an example). and for $279, it is, imo, overpriced, by a lot. |

That's just nuts. If your onboard nic is being a dog, just get one of these for 26 bucks shipped:
