speed problem

Just wondered if anyone has any helpfull hints?.My connection has started to slow over the past few days.I have checked the obvious (malware spyware and the likes) and don't seem to have a problem.I have phoned my service provider and they ran through a oad of stuff but say there is no slow down but it just aint right. It works but it just seems to drag its feet that little bit and it bugs the hell out of me its supposed to be a 2Mb connection.Any ideas as to what might cause this.I have ran AVG spybot S and D adaware and the trojan cleaner but still no luck.Any help would be great cheers in advance.

Exactly how are you connected? Modem model? Router model? Basic system specs, please.

Hi, i am connected via a cable modem which is a Motorola surfboard SB4200 at 2MB (supposedly). My PC runs XP Pro, i was running through a Linksys router which i have disconnected to sort the problem (no change so it wasn't that). The speed seems to jump up and down rather than just being slow.PC runs a AMD 3200 with a gig of RAM at 333mhz.Anything else?

What MODEL Linksys router?

Have you powered the modem off for 20 minutes, powered it back on, and restarted the computer yet?

Sorry, not been about for a few days.Where was i, if i connect my modem straight into the back of my PC i get a pretty good connection but if i place the router between the two (like your supposed to) my connection drops dead, thats the one wired from modem to router to PC.And any wireless connection dies too, allthough my wireless connection says the signal strength is very good i cannot connect and if i scan for a signal it pretty good.Unplug the router and wire straight into pc and we fine again?.Any ideas. Oh and for the reckord the router is a Linksys WRT54GX

Upgrade the router firmware, do a hard reset to factory defaults, then set it up again. Clone the MAC address of your wired NIC into the router.

Open a command prompt, type ipconfig/all. In the data for your adapter, it's the 6 pairs of alphanumerics in Physical Address. Linksys should have a section for MAC Address Clone, put it in there.
