Pobleme setting up a GDI network laser printer!
Hello,
I would like to install a printer on my network equiped with PC’s using Windows XP. It is a QMS-Minolta Magicolor DeskLaser 2200. The way I have set the Network IP address: 192.168.1.200 as well as the Router IP address. The machine provides 3 menus for SNMP (NMS1, NMS2, NMS3). I don’t know how to use that but I’ve given the IP address of one of my machines, then a Community name (?) is asked (Public by default) and an NMS access (several choices). This last bit is probably not very relevant for me as I don’t know how to use this… Obviously, the machine is recognised on the network because from different computers I’m able to ping it. One question is: because it’s a GDI printer, does it need to be attached to a computer? I’ve installed it with the Add Printer Wizard using the “Local Printer attached to this computer” (as this printer is not attached to a print server). I created a new port: 192.168.1.200 and give the name of Magicolor to the Port name. But still, I’m unabled to print anything! Can anyone help me? Ofreeb |

If you are connecting the printer to your router with an Ethernet cable, then you DO have a print server, it's internal to the printer. To install it, you have to follow the instructions in the manual.

I just downloaded the install manual and it's addressed in there. You set the IP and subnet mask using the Network front panel menu, then you install the printer driver/monitor on each workstation manually to a local port with plug and play deselected using the CD. You then change the port from LPT1 to the Crown port.

I'm a bit confiused: what do you call the print server?
I have this Magicolor and no printer dedicated to it as such. This Crown Port Monitor is using the IP address I entered in the Magicolor... Ofreeb |

The print server is inside the printer - you have the printer connected to the network with Ethernet cable, correct? You set up the print server according to the directions in the manual I referenced, right? You assigned it an IP address, right? Ping that IP address.

IF I ping it it works... (either assigned manually or through the DHCP of the Router)

Then there is no reason whatsoever it should not print as long as the software is installed on each computer and is pointing at the correct port.
