Questions about password reset disk

On Windows XP there is an option to make a password reset disk (I am not sure that is the exact name). My understanding is that it doesn't matter how many times you change your password, it will work if the password is forgotten or I suppose corrupted somehow. Is that correct?

Also, I presume that the disk only works for the identity it is made under and that you would have to make one for each user. Is that correct?

Also, if I want to keep one in more than one location will copying the floppy work, or making another disk? If I make another, does that make the first one not work?

Thanks

1.) If the profile exists and is able to be loaded, this disk will reset the password.

2.) I am assuming this correct, but anything is possible. I haven't used one of disks, but am now curious about it. It only works for the machine made it.

3.) For backup purposes, you could copy the disk to another, providing you will be using it for the same user account it was made under.

I'll try it and let you know.........

Yes, you have to make one for each for each user. It stores your current password and uses that credential to reset the password for that account.

That was sort of my understanding. The way I understood it from the computer itself was that it was per identity and you could switch passwords for that identity as often as you wanted without making another disk and the same disk would work for that identity, but not the others. Thanks.
