I hope everyone is enjoying thier holiday weekend and I really hope someone can take some time to help me out here.
I have a home networks based around a Netgear WGT624v2 wireless router. I have one pc connecting to it directly through the ethernet port, 4 computers connected through the wireless, and 2 TIVOs connected wirelessly. My problem is that my internet seems to have gotten painfully slow in recent months. I have verizon FIOS which promises 15MB download speeds. With the computer that is directly connected to the router I get around 1MB download and slightly less on the wireless pcs. Today I disconnected the wireless router and connected my pc to the internet through a D-Link DI-604 Ethernet Broadband Router. My download speeds went through the roof. My question is whether there is a problem with my wireless netgear router or if I have a problem with my settings with the router. I also tried connecting my pc to the D-Link router and then running a cable from the D-Link to the Netgear to enable wireless. The problem I am having with this is that I get no internet connection through the wirelss on any of the wirelessly connected pcs. I also tried connecting just the one pc through an ethernet cable to the netgear router and disabling the wireless broadcast. My thinking was that perhaps the extra connections were slowing down my network. I still got the painfully slow conenction. My questions: 1) Do you think there is a problem with my netgear router? 2) Do you think I have a problem with my setting on the netgear router? If so, what can I do to correct my problem? 3) Is there a way to "daisy-chain" the D-Link router and the Netgear router in the fashion described above? If so, how do I go about doing it? Thank you to all who read this and can provide any insigt into my problems. I know I tend to be longwinded and I appreciate you all bearing with me. ~JEFF! |

1. Yes.
2. Update the firmware and do a hard reset back to factory defaults, then reconfigure it. 3. Yes, but it may not work too well. The Netgear has to be manually set to an IP address in the D-Link subnet but outside the D-Link's DHCP scope, DHCP services in the Netgear have to be disabled, and you use a numbered port for the interconnection, not the Internet/WAN port. |
