"Nat to nat" problem?

For some reason, our new connection will let us get to most sites but times out on a select few (MSN.com, CNN.com, hotmail.com, photobucket.com, a few others, including Aces High's game server) After talking with our ISP, they have informed us that the problem is with our PC and not their network. The tech support guy (who apparently doesn't actually do tech support) said that the problem seems to be something called "nat to nat translation" and would affect secure sites and servers. He advised downloading Firefox, which we already have. Also, a lot of graphics won't load completely, and as a result, Firefox just keeps saying it's loading and loading and loading, ad nauseum.

I'm hoping someone here can help. Thanks in advance!

what kind of router do you have? is your computer obtaining and ip address and dns information automatically or have you manually entered it into NIC card?

what happens if you remove the router and plug your pc directly into the modem, can you get to those websites at that point?

try updating the firmware on the router.

if there was a Nat (Network Address Translation) problem then switching to firefox would not fix the problem

Thanks for your reply, and sorry for taking so long to get back to you, it's been a bit hectic around here.

We're not using a router or modem, the connection is direct to the network. There's a small black box on the wall that has 3 cords coming out of it, labled "DC", "POE" and "LAN". "DC" goes to the outlet. "POE" goes out through the wall to the antenna. "LAN" goes into the network card in the PC.

Yes, the IP address is obtained automatically.

For some odd reason, I can't get "www.hotmail.com" to go to the default login screen, but when I click the link that I sent to my yahoo account, I am able to log into hotmail.

Yeah, I kind of figured that switching to a new browser wouldn't change the NAT problem.

As of my original post, we have reformatted, switched hard drives, reformatted the new hard drive, switched video cards, tried using the onboard network card, and the network card we just got last week. And we're still having the problem of not being able to get to the aforementioned sites. Images stored on photobucket won't load. AVG won't update. The Windows Update page won't even load!

Something tells me that the problem is with the network connection settings, and our ISP needs to get someone out here to take a look at it.

Again, thank you for your reply!

who is your ISP? sounds like you are connected directly to the modem and you are automatically receving your ip address from the ISP.

do you have any 3rd party firewalls running on your pc?

are you running windows XP? if you are running a 3rd party firewall, disable it and just run the windows firewall and see if you can browse to all of your websites that you are having trouble with.

Our ISP is totalaccess.net, and yes, the LAN line goes directly between the network card and the outside antenna (tech called it a radio) and yes, we receive the IP address automatically from the ISP.

No, there is no 3rd party firewall, just Windows firewall, and it is on.

Yes, we're running XP.

The odd thing is, we reformatted AGAIN, things ran fine for several hours, then started messing up again. Nothing new was downloaded or installed. My husband was watching an episode of Jericho last night (directly from the CBS site) which did not finish, and now we are having the same problems again. Another odd thing: AdAware says there was no spyware (ran the scan) but the CPU was at 100% for well over an hour. I looked in the Task Manager, and IE was running at 90,000k and more with 99 in CPU column. Closing IE helped some, but the CPU usage did not return to normal (0% to 20% is usual for us) until I restarted the PC.
