Internet Networking Speed Explanation Needed
I would like to know if someone could explain the speeds of internet networking. What does the K stand for in the 768K that I have for DSL?Kilobyte?Kilobit? Also I have a WPC54G that is 54 MBPS,and a LNE100TX that is 100 MBPS.What do these mean?Does this mean one is almost twice as fast as the other? Is that only for file transfers between computers, and not the internet,or would it be if I had a faster internet service? Are there internet services this fast? Also somewhere I read that the LNE100TX can download at 200 MBPS.How can it do that?Sorry for all the questions!Thank You very much!

768 kilobits per second.
Don't sweat the networking adapter speeds, they are many times faster than any Internet connection. Those are in megabits per second. |

There are 8 bits in a byte. Your computer measures things in bytes, but networking equipment is rated in bits. B=byte and b=bit. So if you have a "6 Mb/s" internet connection, your max download speed will be 750 KB/s.
Wireless networking products never live up to what it says on the box, so it doesn't really work to compare them to wired devices. When the LNE100TX talks about 200Mb/s it's talking about the full possible duplex speed, 100Mb/s up and 100Mb/s down at the same time, which almost never happens.
