Protecting one computer from another
Here is the situation. I constantly am finding "junk" on my computer after the kids use it to go to all the kiddy sites (Disney channel, etc.).
I would like to put together a computer for my children using parts already owned. I would like them to be able to use their computer to go on the web and all. However, I need to know if their is a way to basically isolate their computer from mine even though we both with be connected to the same cable modem and router. Is there a simple and effective way to firewall my computer so any virus that may get to one computer cannot get to the other? Thank you, |

Simple - disable client for microsoft networks and file and print sharing in the network connection properties. ALL you need for Internet is TCP/IP and nothing else. Make sure file and print sharing is not checked in the firewall exception list if you put XP on it.

And if you want to be doubly safe, do the same thing on yours. The only thing this is going to do is prevent you from sharing files and printers if you want.
