Need a bit more detail:

what kind of internet connection do you have?
what O/S on each laptop?
Are both laptops wireless or just one?

it shouldn't be a problem but lets get pointed in the right direction 1st.

Dialup or broadband? If broadband, is it DSL or cable and how is it connected to what? Both laptops have internal wireless, only one, or neither? Do both laptops have wired network adapters?

Don't care about the version of Office, need the version of Windows - one is 2000 Pro, the other is what? If Windows XP, is it Home, Pro, or Media Center?

if you have broadband whether its dsl or cable you willl need a wireless router unless the modem you got from your ISP provider already has the wireless router/switch built in, then you dont need anything except to configure the wireless.
