Netgear router. In the future looking for a N router, probably Linksys. I'm satisfied with Netgear router, no problems, no need for setting nothing, unless my ISP provider is down (it happens -- rarely.)

I used to have a Linksys BEFSR41 until my house got hit by lightning and fried my whole computer network and other things. Now I have a Linksys BEFSR81 which works great with 4 computer, a print server, my xbox 360, and of course my occasional Xbox Halo LAN parties

The BEFSR41 has been around forever and I've seen/worked with a whole ton of them. Very seldom does one go bad unless you stack stuff on top of it and it overheats. As I already said, I'm using one and I have about 3 or 4 used ones kicking around here that all still work. I use them for loaners and for troubleshooting. It probably is the best standard 4 port wired-only consumer grade router ever made. The old single port BEFSR11 and the 8 port BEFSR81 are just as reliable. It says something when the latest firmware upgrade is over 3 years old - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's good to know G. I always make it a habit to check for potential firmware upgrades for the folks' router when I go home for breaks. However, being that the latest is already 3 years old, I don't think another will be released anytime soon. |

at the moment i have a horrible bt voyager router. But if i can convince the poers that be (my parents) to allow me to build a rig over the summer holidays after my GCSE exams, i will probably pick up a linkys router at the same time, as i have heard many a good thing about them.

Well, the UK Linksys combo modem/routers aren't THAT great either from what I hear.

That's scary - over here I have more problems with Netgear than any other name brand routers.

Strange eh? I've heard Panama Red complain about Netgear stuff too. For me, our 'combo' network equipment is a bit of a grey area - if I were setting up a network for myself right now, I'd probably buy a separate ADSL ethernet modem, a wires only router, and a wireless access point.

Sure - we have combos for cable, but not for DSL that I'm aware of. Comcast even offers a customized Linksys combo when you order the home networking package.

Linksys at home, Netgear firewall at work
Love the Lynksys, despise the Netgear. |
