webpage downloading via wireless stalls

Could someone please help me with the following:

I have a `remote' PC that connects to the internet via a wireless (802.11b) link, but webpage downloading either stalls or proceeds very, very slowly.

The remote PC uses Windows Xp and has a Linksys WUSB11 wireless adaptor that links to a WAP11 Wireless Access Point. The latter is hard-wired to a D-Link DSL-504 modem-router that is also hard-wired to the internet (via broadband) and to two other PCs. Although the wireless signal on the remote PC is displayed as `very good', when launching MS Internet Explorer the taskbar displays `website found; waiting for reply...'.This situation then doesn't change (stalls). On occasions, the taskbar display proceeds to the next step, ie. `opening http://(webpage name)', but this situation then stalls or the webpage starts downloading very, very slowly. In fact, it rarely finishes the download.

A number of other points.
- This situation arises whether I am using Internet Explorer 7, 6 or earlier versions.
- The PCs that are hardwired to the router access the internet without problems.
- The remote PC can download, via the wireless link, such things as e-mail (using Outlook Express) and files from the other PCs using My Network Places, all without problems.
- I have tried the following on the remote PC: running Ad-ware and spyware detection programs, turning off directory indexing, uninstalling and re-installing IE, `Restoring Defaults' and `Resetting Web Settings' (in Internet Options).
- When the webpage downloading stalls, the Windows Task Manager on the remote PC shows the CPU processes to be 99% `System Idle Process'.

The only solution that I have found so far is to reinstall windows (using the Windows `repair' mode). After doing this, the IE works fine for several days. But then, the problem starts again, generally after a boot-up.

Anything that would point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

USB networking is nothing but problems.

I'd uninstall the adapter and reinstall it using the latest drivers, and I'd also update the firmware in the WAP and do a hard reset on it - and reconfigure it.

Many thanks for that. I have tried resetting the WAP, but without any improvement, but I'll now try your other suggestions.
