Question Fictional LAN defeats java in FF2

Please see my post below under "Software" (Internet/www/Internet Servers).

In-a-nutshell: Java won't let me make Firefox my default browser, because it thinks I have a network and need administrator's approval to make browser changes. I have no network. I merely mistakenly created a "fictional" LAN on my connections page. Noone has been able to remove the LAN so far. Now Java won't work in my Firefox 2. Ideas?
