Gigabit lan and hub question

On a hub I will be connecting 8 computers that have regular 10mbps lan. 2 computers will both have onboard gigabit lan on their motherboard.

Will I be able to achieve a gig of data transfer between the 2 computers that have onboard gigabit lan? Is there a need for a special hub that will maximize the potential of the gigabit ethernet?

Only if the switch you are using is a gigabit switch, otherwise the answer is no. HTH

You need a gigabit switch to connect computers and achieve gigabit speeds. I also sincerely hope that what you have now is a switch, not a hub.

Thank you. I'll add that to my list.

Will a gigabit lan connection increase the speed of a VNC software? In my case Real VNC.

If you're currently using VNC over a 10Mbit connection then you will definitely see an improvement I think. If you're on a 100Mbit LAN, you might see some, but not all that much as I don't think that VNC maxes out a 100Mbit LAN. HTH

I see. Thanks. I guess it's a small risk spend for a gigabit switch since I can still use it for file transfers.
