Cant find server but can find IP address...

Hello again,
I am using my friends wireless network at my house, with his permission of course, and I have been using it for about a month now. But something happened, when I try to connect to it, it finds the connection, connects, finds the IP address, and it says its connected. But when I open my browser it says it cant find the server. Whats going on?

Have you tried any other sites or IP addresses, or is it just the home page?

try pinging websites ie: yahoo.com you should get replies.
also try pinging the routers ip address which can be located by typing ipconfig at the command prompt and use the default gateway address to ping the router

make sure mac filtering is not enabled on that router which could be preventing u from connecting to the internet.

turn off or disable any 3rd party firewalls, norton internet security, mcafee, ZA.

OK, I cant ping any sites. And I turned off my firewall, and I cleaned my Temp Internet files. (just to see if it helped).
And I still cant connect.

What do I type to ping the router?

start>run>cmd>ping

can locate the ip of router by typing ipconfig at the command prompt. under default gateway u will see an ip address which is the routers ip address. use that.

what about mac filtering for wireless? did u ask your friend if he has it enabled? if so have him turn it off and see if you can get online.

just type : ipconfig /all at command prompt and you will see IP configuration .
Their you will see the IP address of your router.

At command prompt, type ping and type the routers ip address after ping command.
don't forget to give space between ping and routers ip address.

if you see "request time out" in response , then their is problem with your connection.

Is their any proxy settings of your ISP service? Maybe the proxy server would be preventing you to connect to some websites.
