Want to go wireless
Ok here is the deal. I have a computer that is connected to the internet through a Motorola cable modem supplied by the cable company, it uses the ethernet port. I have another computer in the other room with a linksys usb external adapter. I think wusb54g? Not sure. Anyways I'm wondering which wireless router will be easiest to set up and use in my situation.
thanks in advance Last edited by matt_dizzle; 12-29-2006 at 04:36 PM. |

This is the one I use and have been VERY satisfied with:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124190 If you like to tinker you can even install third party firmware on the router above that adds more options, but will void your warranty: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php HTH |

Well I went to Best Buy and Circuit City, neither of them had the GL version. I was talked into the wrt54g wireless router they said it would be fine. Well I get home and go by the installation CD and the router cannot detect an internet connection. So I try to access the setup page and it won't even let me access it. I'm typing 192.168.1.1 it actually came up once but then was not functional. Any suggestions?

push and hold the reset button for 1min. Then power cycle the router. Then try the 192.168.1.1 again.

I did the reset and it worked so I go to linksys.com and download their firmware. When I go to the setup page and click on update firmware it started then stopped, now my green power light on my router is blinking constantly. I've tried rebooting the router several times with no luck. Any suggestions?

People have actually been having quite a bit of trouble with newer versions of the regular WRT54G and this why I recommended the GL version to you. There is another thread in this forum that may help you with troubleshooting:

Well I called linksys and they told me it was a firmware problem and ran me through like 20 steps. Nothing worked so he told me to exchange the router because apparently when installing the new firmware my router had lost power. Went back and just bought a D Link. Set it up in exactly 2 mins, was very easy. Linksys needs to fix that problem they are having.

Wish I could have found one nearby, these stores around here didn't have any.

You generally don't find them at retail - but all the decent online vendors have them.
