Wireless-Limited or no connectivity

Hi,

I have recently gotten a laptop for work which I want to use at home on my wireless network.

I have an SMC WBR14T-G router.

I have disabled wep encryption and am able to connect wirelessly. When I enable encryption I get the limited or no connectivity error. I have made sure my key is the same in the router and the wireless laptop to no avail. I am getting 169. bla bla bla when running ipconfig /all.

Have tried the winsock fix from snap files on both pc and laptop. I would run without encryption but as I am in an apartment I would like it to be enabled.

Help appreciated.

You're getting 169.254....blah blah on your IPCONFIG? That means it's not networked. That's XP's standard "I don't got no IP address" IP address.

Run the wireless network setup wizard and rematch the WEP keys again.

Send a message via Yahoo to toomyg
did you try resetting the router from scratch ? resetting to default
Do you use the software for the wifi card? I would try the Windows wireless zero config insted thats what I use because the software that came with my wifi card(SMCWCBT-G) was very unstable and I also have the same router (as a backup) as you but not in use at the moment using a WRT54G with dd-wrt firmware alot better the smc router

What knid of wifi card are you using? I don't see it in your post

It's an encryption mismatch. Use a different type of encryption.

You got a problem with your encryption types. Find out what encryption types your wireless adapter can use and match your router to use one of those types. I had the same problems just yesterday and I changed the encryption and it worked fine. See if that works.
