Network Help Needed Please
Here's a rundown of my Home Network
Main Computer (Upstairs) - Connected to Wireless Netgear Router (Main Internet Line Connects here) The Router is next to the PC. Laptop Computer (Downstairs) - Wireless - Networked with "Main Computer" and using the "Main Computers" Internet via Wireless. Now I have been trying to Connect the Playstation 2 to the Laptop with no luck, turns out I have the wrong cable, so I get a CAT5 Crossover Cable, and still no luck, the Playstation 2 is downstairs in the same room as the Laptop. I had a long cable that I threw downstairs and Hooked upto the PS2 from the Router and it works fine. But my misses says its dangerous and people keep clotheslining themselves on it......... I used this following text taken from a Tutorial on how to do this, and I just cant get it working. In Network Connections it shows as being connected to the PS2, but when I try the Network Disc on the PS2 to connect, it shows a message on the Laptop saying Network Cable Unplugged, why is it disconnecting when it should be doing the opposite? anyways.........the guide says this........ ========================================= 1. make sure your laptop can access the internet at the location you want to use your PS2. 2. Connect your PS2 and PC using the network cable, turn on the PS2 and insert the Network Access disk. 3. go to your Network Properties page. (press the Start menu, right click My Network Places, and select What you need to do is bridge the Wireless connection and the Local Area connection. Select both connections and right click one of them. select "Bridge connections" from the drop down box. To check if your new combined network is working correctly, try accessing the internet on your laptop. If it works, all should be fine, and you can set up your PS2 to connect using your Network Access disc. if you have already set it up previously (by moving your PS2 or dragging long cables), you should have no problem just connecting and playing your games online. If it did not work, make sure your PC's network settings are still correct for you to access the internet on the bridge. (You will have to use the Network Bridge to set TCP/IP settings etc. as the two network cards have effectively been combined as one, and use the same IP address and settings. ================================= Any Ideas whats making my PS2 not do what his is? |

Connect the laptop directly to the wireless router via wireless, not to the main computer. Rather than trying to use a bridge, get a wireless gaming adapter for the PS2 and connect it directly to the router too.

How do I connect the Laptop to the rouer directly via wireless? I thought it had to be through the main PC.

If it's a wireless router, you connect the main PC to it with an Ethernet cable. Then you connect the laptop to the router using wireless. That's standard procedure. They make wireless gaming adapters to connect to game consoles. Everything connects to the router either wired or wireless.

Thats exactly how I have it set up already (minus the gaming adapter) is there no possible way I can use my Laptop as a Hub? when I connect the Router to PS2 it works fine, no way to do the same thing only connect via Laptop?
What gaming would you advise on (I'm in UK) something not to expensive. |

You can bridge the connections as described, but it may not work very well. If it's showing as disconnected, you have the wrong type cable or the cable is defective.
Here's a gaming adapter: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/113699/rb/24282642171 |

If I was to eventually buy one of these items (wireless game link) how would it work for me?
Would I still be able to use My main PC online, and use the laptop via wireless, and the PS2 via wireless? is it easy to setup, obviouslythe Laptop will be off when PS2 is on to save bandwith, but is the config easy in this situation? |

Everything will work independently of each other if you get a wireless gaming adapter. The router will control everything.

All you do is associate all the wireless adapters with the router. The laptop is associated with the router now, right?
