problem with new pc and switch
I am having a wierd problem with my new pc i just built. I have switch in my room that connects my two pcs in my room to the router in my apartment. Well my laptop and older pc has/had no problem connecting through the switch. The new pc i got running today will give me a limited or no connectivity icon when i try to use it through the switch. I can connect directly to the router and its fine and I can also use the wireless connection so i am sure its not a protocol or nic or winsock problem.
I have tried different cables that are known to work and i have tried different ports on the switch that are known to work. I am at a loss right now. My NIC is built on the mobo which is a biostar tforce 965pt with the drivers installed. it is a 10/100/1000 realtek chipset. The switch is an 8 port zonet 10/100 switch. |

Do you have a spare LAN card you could put in the machine just to rule out a bad onboard LAN?

Have you tried a DNS flush and reboot?
Open a command prompt and type: ipconfig /flushdns |

turn off the autonegotiation on the switch and the NIC, set it for 10mbps and see if it works, then set it for 100 and see what happens.
autoengotiation can be flaky sometimes |

What brand of switch do you have and what category cabling (5, 5e, or 6) are you using? HTH

Does the switch have an uplink port or does it have auto MDI/MDI-X?
Really old switches have neither and you must use a crossover cable to connect them to another switch or a router, switches from a couple years ago and older have a marked uplink port you need to use, and new switches can automatically detect the proper configuration for each port.
