Hello..........I have one machine using a DSL connection to access the internet. I have another machine networked to it via a crossover cable.
So far the second does not see the Intenet. Both PC's have a unique computer name both with the workgroup set to "workgroup." NetBuei is installed on both and I have private IP's set to both NIC's. Does WIN2K have a built in proxy or should I download a free one? If I need to download, any recommendations? Thanks...........TH |

2K has a form of Internet Connection Sharing, like 98SE and ME. Go into dialup and network connections, share the DSL connection, share it to the LAN nic, and set the IP on the other machine to DHCP.

Ok.....From both machines, I can see the other machine in My Network Places.
DSL connection is working fine on the server, all NIC's are getting IP's. Second LAN machine still cannot does not have access to the internet. Ping fails with "Destination Net Unreachable." Ping from the server fails with "Request Timed Out." Internet connection wizard fails too. Any ideas? TH |

If this is PPPoE type DSL that uses logon software such as Enternet or Winpoet, get rid of the software and get RASPPPoE . I really don't think you want to run the ICW......get the server working properly, then share the connection, then use DHCP on the client.

Thanks for the help glc.
I will try RASPPPoE. As it stands now, both machines can see each other (My Network Places) but still can't ping each other. On the server side, I have three connection in Network and Dial-up connections. 1. PPPoE 2. NIC to DSL modem 3. Second NIC for the LAN connection via crossover cable. All three of these connections have an Internet Connection Sharing option available. At the risk of sounding like an idiot, which of these three connections need to be "shared." The client NIC is set to DHCP and is getting an IP address assigned. Something like 164.X.X.X. When I shared the LAN NIC, W2K assigned 196.168.0.1 to it. I was expecting the client side to be something like 196.168.0.11 or similar at least. Does this sound right? Thanks.............TH |

You share the PPPoE connection (not the DSL nic) to the LAN nic. It will assign the LAN nic 192.168.0.1.
The client should be set to obtain IP automatically, use DHCP, no gateway or DNS. The client NIC should come up as 192.168.0.2. |

I got home from work, swapped the crossover cable and was finally able to share the PPPoE connection to the LAN NIC.
Yesterday when I was trying this, the LAN NIC wasn't available for selection under the PPPoE connection. Thanks for you help, TH |
