High Ping, Latency issue
My computer has been working fine up until now where every time i try to play a game online, i have a ping of over 400. My normal ping is around 40 and i cant realize whats wrong, its been like this for 3 days now. I have powered off my comp, the DSL router, and even re installed the Ethernet Drivers for my Mobo. Is there any other way i can tell whats leaching my connection?
Thanks for any help. |

Does this happen in every game server?
Can you go to Start -> Run -> "cmd" and type tracert If the timings are just as high, I'd recommend restarting your computer in Safe Mode and then repeating step 2 to ensure it is not a program or spyware/virus lagging you.

You have to tracert to a specific address - like one of the game servers.
C:\>tracert www.yahoo.com Tracing route to www.yahoo-ht2.akadns.net [209.131.36.158] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 14 ms 14 ms 15 ms user-11fag01.dsl.mindspring.com [66.245.64.1] 2 14 ms 13 ms 15 ms user-11fag01.dsl.mindspring.com [66.245.64.1] 3 14 ms 13 ms 17 ms cor01-v10.il-chicago0.ne.earthlink.net [209.165. 97.33] 4 14 ms 14 ms 14 ms bor01-ge-1-2.il-chicago0.ne.earthlink.net [209.1 65.97.1] 5 15 ms 15 ms 16 ms bor02-ge-1-1.il-chicago0.ne.earthlink.net [209.8 6.83.14] 6 18 ms 18 ms 20 ms bor02-so-6-1.in-indianap0.ne.earthlink.net [209. 86.82.41] 7 19 ms 18 ms 18 ms bor01-ge-1-1.in-indianap0.ne.earthlink.net [209. 86.83.41] 8 33 ms 34 ms 33 ms bor01-so-6-1.ga-atlanta0.ne.earthlink.net [209.8 6.82.37] 9 47 ms 47 ms 47 ms bor01-p4-1.va-ashburn0.ne.earthlink.net [209.165 .110.74] 10 47 ms 47 ms 48 ms bor02-ge-1-1.va-ashburn0.ne.earthlink.net [209.8 6.83.34] 11 47 ms 48 ms 48 ms exchange-cust1.dc2.equinix.net [206.223.115.16] 12 100 ms 99 ms 99 ms so-0-0-0.pat1.pao.yahoo.com [216.115.101.128] 13 99 ms 100 ms 100 ms g-1-0-0-p140.msr1.sp1.yahoo.com [216.115.107.53] 14 99 ms 101 ms 99 ms te-8-1.bas-a1.sp1.yahoo.com [209.131.32.17] 15 98 ms 100 ms 99 ms f1.www.vip.sp1.yahoo.com [209.131.36.158] Trace complete. What hardware do you have - a DSL combo modem/router? Brand and model, please, and is it ISP-provided?
You are having a major issue between your router and your ISP. It's not an issue with your computer because you have NO lag between you and the router. It's a bum modem/router, a bad phone line, a bad DSLAM, or a bad ISP local router. I would not hesitate to contact your ISP for assistance. |
