greedo 1U Rackmount

Hey, I have a rather pressing need to know what the heck a 1U rackmount is and what it does. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks, rahamanpatrick.

Read this. It explains it pretty well.

So a 1U rackmount is a rack to put hardware on that's 1U, 1.75 inches of vertical space. Correct?

Right a rack will have mounting holes based on that size of components. Some components will take up more space than just 1 ru. For instance a ups or a draw that can hold a monitor or keyboard. As far as the fiber optic someone else wil have to take that one but i would venture a guess that if you went back to webopedia you can find an answer. Better yet just google it.
