Linksys WMP54G problem
Not so sure this is a Linksys problem because the wireless card works in my other computer. For some reason this card is not recognized by XP no matter which PCI slot I install it in. I've tried different drivers, IRQ's, even flashed the bios to newest version with no luck. I can force the hardware wizard in XP to install the card but it gives me an error saying device not started (code 10). Anyone else had any issues like this? Any help appreciated.

Motherboard brand and model, please. If it's an older one, I suspect the PCI slots might not be PCI 2.2 or 2.3 spec which that card requires.

It is an older board (Asus P2B). There is a setting in the bios which enables PCI 2.1 support so I assume this card will not work with this motherboard then? Will any of the new wireless cards work? Thanks for the help.

Bingo - that's only a 2.1 board. What brand and model is your router, and is USB an acceptable option?

The router is the Speedstream 6520 and yes, USB is an option. I wanted to set up this old computer in my workshop which is too hard to get wire to.

Any USB wireless adapter should be compatible as long as it does not require USB 2.0. Just remember that USB will have some system overhead. I'd get one that uses a cable to a box with an antenna, not one of the minis that looks like a thumb drive. Here's a decent one:

Thanks glc, I'll give that one a go. After all the years I've been here, I think you have answered pretty much every question I've had. As always, it's greatly appreciated.
