change internet connection from lan to adsl

hi.
i formated my laptop at work (win2000 pro) and wanted to update it while i am working so i added it to my domain at work and connected through the lan connection.
now i want at home to configure an over the adsl line connection but when adding a network connection this option does not appear. i tried changing back to workgroup but still i can only configure a new lan connection.
how do i change my laptop to be able to connect directly to the internet?
will i be able to set some of users to connect using lan and some using direct connection?
thanks

Use an ADSL modem that has a router function, or connect your modem to a router, and it will work over the standard LAN connection. The PPPoE and the login will be handled by the router.

glc,
i already have an ECI B-focus 270pr adsl modem. is this sufficient?
if not is there no way of changing the laptop configuration to work with this adsl modem?

That is a router and should work fine with the default LAN connection - as long as you have the connection set to obtain IP address and DNS automatically.

Everything should be configurable in the router's web interface. You need to find the manual.
