Hello,
Here's my situation: I need fast enough internet to go from a neighbor's house next door (not accross the street, literally next door) down to my basement, a range of about 200 feet. The problem is there are 2 small garages, a metal boat, and a camper in the middle. I bought a buffalo wireless router (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833162173) with hopes that it would cover the distance and give me decent internet speed. ( i need the internet to be fast enough to handle WoW / CS / etc. After the inital installation I got back to my house and got very low signal. Ok, with that said, I am thinking of getting a high gain antenna AND if necessary a wireless repeater i can put in one of those two garages between the two houses. From experience, will this help and is it worth the investment? Theres one part of my problem. The next part is the internet itself. I took my laptop over to my neighbor's house and got full 54mbps full bars of reception and.... no internet. This is exactly what I did: 1. opened up the buffalo router, disconnected the ethernet cable coming out of the cable box from the back of the computer and into the slot in the wireless router labled "WAN" 2. took the cable coming from the back of the computer (the one that was initally plugged directly into the cable box) and put it in one of the router ports 3. plugged everything in. I get a signal, but when I open up a browser on either the desktop or the laptop i get no internet. When I get rid of the router and plug the cord from the cable box directly into the back of the desktop again, the internet works. The desktop at my neighbor's is quite old gateway running windows ME. the laptop is a Dell XPS gen 2. I have an SBC dsl internet connection at my house and to install that all I did was plug the cords in and it worked. I don't know why this doesn't work with the comcast cable. Anyways, I really hope you guys can help me I know you all helped me so much in the past pcmech is awesome. If pictures help I'll go and take pictures of the two houses with the garages in between etc. basically i need: 1.) the wireless signal to work- (right now it says that im connected but when i open a browser i get nothing) 2.) to find a way to extend the range and power of the wireless connection. Thanks in advance, Super_rip |

The cable modem has to be powered off for a few minutes to reset the MAC security when you move it from a direct connection to a router.

need better reception
Ok, after several hours on the phone with comcast, the internet FINALLY broadcasts and works on both computers when im upstairs or at my neighbor's house. When im downstairs, there is little to no signal. What would be the best thing I could do to get good signal? Im not even sure how a wireless repeater or high gain antenna works?
