logging on prob.

I am over a friends house sitting and was trying to log on with my lap top to check my email but am not able to. I get a message stateing that it is a secured network and I need a wep/wpa key. I get the key, and sign on but it tells me that the connection is limited or no connection. We both are using XP home and we both have cable internet. Do I need to get a router? I was able to connect at my sisters house, with her dial up, and no router. why am I able to connect at my house wirelessly but not at a friends house, with the same isp? thanks for any help.

You only need to be on the same workgroup if you want to fileshare.

You most likely do not have the exact correct key, those are the symptoms of mismatched encryption. The other possibility is your friend's router has no more DHCP addresses available or it is also using MAC security.
