Can't network Virtual PC to host computer
I'm using Microsoft Virtual PC (no year included) 5.3.582.27 and I can't seem to network the host computer to the virtual pc. I've been trying a lot of different things on the network connection setup of the virtual pc but no LAN comes out. Actually nothing comes out after I click on the "finish" button on the new network setup. Help.

Are you using the shared NIC or NAT networking in VPC? I'd also suggest downloading VPC 2007, it has fixed a lot of issues over the VPC 2004 you currently have.
From the virtual PC session, let's see this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. |

I used NIC first then when it didn't work I used NAT. When both didn't work, I tried the other networking options. Unfortunately, all of them didn't work.
For some reason, I couldn't paste the results of the IPCONFIG outside the VPC so I just typed them out. Here are the results of the VPC's IPCONFIG /all: Windows IP Configuration Host Name: xtest Primary Dns Suffix : Modee Type: Broadcast IP Routing Enabled: No WINS Proxy Enabled: No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix Description: Intel 21140 Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Physical Address: (lan address. I didn't type it anymore) Dhcp Enabled: Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes IP Address: 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0 IP Address: fe00:203:ffff:fe01:af3bx4 Default Gateway: DHCP Server: 255.255.255.255 DNS Servers: fec0:0:0:ffff::1x1 fec0:0:0:ffff:2x1 Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Connection-specific DNS Suffix: Description: FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF Dhcp enabled: No IP Address: fe80:5445:5245:444fx5 Default Gateway: Net IOS over Tcpip: disabled |

Try setting it back to the shared NIC and let's see the IPCONFIG for that environment. Also, if you load the VM Extensions, you can create a shared folder as a network drive in your VM, so you can swap files back and forth easily.

I don't have the the shared NIC on this VPC for some reason. The only NIC that I have is the Broadcom Gigabit Internet option.

You might want to consider enabling/installing NWLink NetIOS and making sure file and print sharing is enabled.

There is no reason to use another protocol, TCP/IP should do the job just fine.

I downloaded VPC 2007 and the network options were all the same:
Not Connected Local only Intel Pro Wireless 2200 BG Network... Sierra Wireless EDGE Adapter Shared Networking (NAT) I doubt that I'm supposed to select "local only", wireless, much less "not connected". Tried the NAT but it still won't work. |

Do you only have wireless connections on that machine? I confess to not having tried to network VPC with wireless connections, perhaps that's where the issue lies?

How can I make the networking to host appear on the drop down list on the settings of Virtual PC 2007?

Got the shared folders figured out. Went with that one instead. Problem solved.
