Problem getting modem to work

I installed a dual boot PCI internal 56k (Zoom model 2920) modem to use on both Windows and Linux. WinXP picked it up right away but when I'm in Mepis v6.5.02, it finds the modem just fine and I can hear it connect but then I get an error message. The PPP log file is below:
