Cannot create New Connection

My PC crashed and while I try to fix it I am using an old PC so i can get help fixing my good PC from people like you.

I tried installing my modem on this PC but the CD was scratched. So I downloaded the drivers, installed the modem but when I try to create the new connection I get the message-

"Your broadband connection should already be configured, if it is not then click this link"

I click the link and it is no help.

Basically whenever I try to create the new connection for my cable modem I get told the connection is already there.

Problem is, the only connection is the dial-up I am currently using.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

You don't need to create a connection for a cable modem - it uses the existing local area network connection. All it needs is the drivers for the Ethernet adapter installed - and the modem needs to be powered off for a few minutes and powered back on to release the old MAC.

With that in mind i tried to install it again using the "wizard" for the Terayon modem.

At the end I keep getting an error saying I have no network adapter. I rebooted the PC and now I am getting an error message saying my adapter is using a static IP address assignments and that I have no DHCP provisioning enabled.

It then tells me to go to Network Properties to configure the adapter.

How do I do that?

It sounds like you are attempting to connect to your broadband using a dialup modem, that is not going to work.
Does that old machine you are using have an ethernet/LAN port?

You may be right, there is no LAN/Ethernet port.

Just 2 ports for a dial-up cord and 2 for a USB connection

Go buy a cheap Ethernet card. Trying to use a cable modem through USB is a pain.
