No connection after OS install

Hi,

I recently reinstalled XP Home. Usually, once I get to the start menu after a reinstall, it will automatically detect the internet right away, prompting for new updates.

That being said, the only network connection showing is my I394. I try to "create a new connection", since the modem is connected directly to the network card in my desktop but it doesnt want to cooperate. I know the internet is working because I am using my laptop to write this inquiry, so I know the modem and router work. I am usiing Comcast.


Anything I should be doing to get an active internet conneciton to activate windows and update drivers?

if you're opening network connections and all that is showing is your 1394 then that means windows has not detected your onboard LAN. did you install all of your chipset drivers after you reinstalled windows?
