Wireless Router Recommendation
I presently have a wireless network in my home using a 2Wire DSL Modem/Wireless Router combo and two wireless computers, a home desktop and my work laptop. The modem/router is 'b', the desktop has a D-Link 'g' PCI wireless card and my laptop has a 'b/g/n' internal adapter. I recently moved my modem/router to my basement office while the home computer is on the first floor. I occasionally use my laptop on the first floor and would occasionally like to use it on the 2nd floor and on my back deck. Unfortunately, moving the modem/router to the basement as significantly diminished the signal strength to the first floor and has made it non-existent on the 2nd floor. Therefore, I want to upgrade to a wireless router that gives a better range. I figure this is also an opportunity to upgrade to a 'g' router. I am looking for recommendations on good wireless routers that will provide a good range. It does not have to be a modem/router combo (I have a separate DSL modem that I can put between the wall jack and the wireless router if necessary). Also, I consider range more important that speed at this point. I have been looking at a Hawking hi-gain MIMO router
(HWRGM1A,http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/...=13&ProdID=292) that claims to give excellent range at a reasonable price (currently about $100). I would appreciate any recommendations for a new wireless router as well as thoughts on/experience with the Hawking products. Sorry for the long message. |

I have no knowledge about your proposed router purchase, but if there is any way you could move your present router up to the second floor, that would probably solve your problems. You are likely to have signal strength problems with any router you stick in the basement.

I just picked up a Linksys Wireless N router for about $100 and it runs like a scalded dog. I had all sorts of range problems in my house with a G router and this single handedly solved them all. Model # is Linksys model 300N. I have it paired with its PCI counterpart. Nice unit.
