Windows XP Home Network Problem
I have my networkhardware set up exactly the same as i did when using windows ME. There are two PCs, each with an NIC, one hub and network cables linking it all up. Everything worked fine in windows ME, i could see the workgroup and computers in network neighbourhood.
However with windows xp i am having problems. I have ran the network setup wizard on both PCs, i chose the option set up the network, no internet connection, as both machines have separate modems. The setup wizard runs right through, i have tried using various workgroup names including the default mshome. When i go to my network places and click view workgroup computers i get the message(note: MSHOME is the workgroup name) Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of thisserver to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available. I have no idea how to fix this problem. At the command prompt when i ping the other PCs ip address i get a reply. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks, Richy |

Read through that tutorial. Windows XP uses the NTFS file system, which requires you to set permissions logged in as Administrator. HTH |
