x45641, Welcome to PC Mechanic. What is it your trying to connect to? The internet, a LAN. A few more specs would be helpful, Type of router, modem model cable or DSL...

manufacturer VIA
model VT8371
type x86-based PC
the pc also does not apply any network card settings in start run cmd ipconfig there are always same old numbers. IP and DNS are only auto can enter manual adres but they do not apply, and no chance to enter anywhere gateway adres. the pc is connected to a wan lan adsl wireless router trendnet tew-4328rp that is connected to a netcologne ar-400 netdsl modem. someone said to install latest motherboard driver after format xp pro sp2 downloaded many from the original site and every driver has error messages that something is missing to be installed first try that then first and also there error message.

Is your NIC recognized in Device Manager, If so, then turn off your modem and router for about two minutes then turn back on see if you get a IP /DNS address.

What does the error message say?

The driver must be installed for the network adapter. Are there any flagged devices in device manager?
