With Avast!, Ad-Aware and AVG AntiSpyware? It's well protected. But installing SpywareBlaster would be a good idea.

I think he meant he had it in that 1st post, then he canned it to see how things worked. Apparently it sped things up.

i installed avg on my wife's laptop.
i have a test file that i know to be infected.
symantec endpoint protection detected it, nod32 detected (only lately, after a recent update) but avg does not detect it.
it is not the most scientific method but i am unimpressed with avg.

There is no antivirus out there that will detect every single virus, each one will miss a certain percentage of viruses.

Of course if you don't feel comfortable using AVG you don't have to use it. You have NOD32 (which is one of the best antivirus programs out there) and if you feel better about using it then that's what you should use.

Try PC Tools ThreatFire (Previously CyberHawk). It's a behavioral based and can run along side your current anti-virus program and also scans for root-kits. I'm running it along side NIS 2008 and haven't noticed and performance hits at all, TUT says its pulling about 7mb, same as NIS 2008. Here's the link www.threatfire.com and its free.

Agreed, Two Rails. MS is the most guilty of overcharging for their software.

I figure, why pay for any Anti-virus when there are so many free versions out there that work just fine (even better then paid ones, in some cases)?

I just had two customers with new HP computers both running Vista. Both came in the same day, complaining that their brand new computers ran slow.

Removed Norton AV from both, then installed AVG and both perked right up. Problem solved, customers happy. I don't need a review from anyone to show me increased performance.
