HELP!!
I did something real stupid. I received a MSN message from a friend asking me to check out her pictures. It was in a zip file. I briefly thought how odd that was, that it was in a zip file. I should of stopped then. But I didn't. I downloaded it. Now I can't get it to stop! It causes my virus program "symantec" to pop up warnings that it couldn't send the emails out. They come in probably 30 at a time. Then it gives a break for an odd amount of time and then tries to resend them. Each error message has a different topic in the subject line. The subjects are very disgusting and quite embarrassing. The people they are being sent to are unrecognizable. I don't know who these people are that it is trying to email. When I look in my email there are no records of anything trying to be sent in the draft, outbox, or sent files. Outlook is the only email server I use. Is this really trying to send this out to people? Or is this a program just causing havoc? How do I get rid of it? I downloaded the McAfee trial period for the full protection program, but it hasn't caught this. I found where the zip file was and deleted it. There is nothing in my add or remove files for this program. How do I find it to get rid of it? ANY advice would be so appreciated. This computer is my work and the computer I use for my college school work. My college is all online, I can't lose this computer. Please someone help me. The name of the zip file was foto-462. You are going to have to run some antivirus scans in SafeMode, do you know how to get your computer to start up in SafeMode?
edit.. Please take some time out to read this thread: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=103171 Consider doing the prerequisite scans and posting a HJT log back here, don't be affraid to come back and ask questions if something is not clear in that thread.
