Maybe. I would take it back and get a FA310, or a Linksys... Been there..

There are several issues with Netgear. And there is something about the 311 and 312, just don't remember what. I had problems with 2 Netgears (FA310), and replaced them with some Linksys 10/100's. Probs went away. I got 2 of them from Office Depot for $11. Sale thing. I'll try to find the link that explained them indetail... Just don't have it right now. It was convincing enough to replace them...

Yeah, I see what you're say'in. I looked at Netgear's site in the support dept and they seemed to have several issues with those. I wondered if that was common for these NIC's.

Hi moregolf,
I rememder reading this as well, apparenetly there is a problem with the Netgear FA311/312 card and the AMD760/761 chipset that would cause the card not to work. If you can find it get the FA310TX because it is more stable and works with every OS possible (the FA311 doesn't work with Linux IIRC).

I've just been installing a home network, initially with 2 computers using netgear hub and NICs. I had great difficulty getting the system to work and have done some web searches - some people don't like Netgear much. I have almost solved my problem, caused in part by following advice I found somewhere to use only TCP/IP for the network. When I ploughed through the Netgear site, they said use NETBEUI and I now have a network. Cards seem to work I have one FA 312 and one FA311.
